How Mereweg connects ocean startups with investors and customers

New ideas for the ocean often come from small teams: a better sensor, a cleaner vessel, a new way to farm or monitor the sea. Turning those ideas into businesses depends on finding the right investors and the right first customers. Supporting that is one of Mereweg’s three core aims.

Free membership for early-stage startups

Membership of Mereweg is open to everyone working in the blue economy, and early-stage startups are invited to join for free, because Mereweg believes in supporting their growth.

What members get

  • Introductions. Access to the Mereweg network, with introductions to other members and partners. For a startup, that can mean an investor, a pilot customer or a research partner.
  • Events. Access to Mereweg events and partner events, where the people who buy, fund and regulate ocean technology are in the same room.
  • Visibility. The chance to share your news and events through Mereweg’s newsletter, website and social media.
  • International reach. Invitations to join international delegation trips, and to take part in events welcoming international delegates to the UK.

Why a cluster helps

Mereweg’s members include established organisations from shipping, technology, tourism, fisheries and aquaculture, finance, energy, academia and research. Being part of the same network puts a startup within reach of the organisations most likely to use, test or back what it builds.

Beyond individual introductions, Mereweg works to facilitate knowledge transfer across sectors and borders, attract more foreign direct investment, and support local talent development, which together make England a better place to build an ocean company.

If you are an early-stage ocean startup, tell us about your company and we will be in touch about next steps.
